Description:
This is my first full leather wooden board binding. While the leather color
is hardly historical, the edge beveling of the boards and the clasp design are
based on German exemplars. In fashioning the clasps for this binding I studied
many examples. If you're interestd in clasps, check out The Archeaology of Medieval Bookbinding (J.A. Szirmai) or Clasps, Schliessen, Clausuren
(Frank Mowery, Guild of Bookworkers Journal, XXIX, No. 2, Fall 1991).
It took me 15 hours to make this pair of clasps with mere hand tools.
