Publish yer own with Lulu

Make a date with LuLu if you have a book to publish but little money or time. Lulu is POD (print on demand) for the every-man-woman-and-child. They let "you publish a real book and sell it to the world." Wow. (They know what a real book is?). Their services look pretty cool and the price is right. Thanks to Sara Sauers for introducing us to LuLu.

The mass card distribution for our project is now underway, and a website will be up soon. For more information on our art-rescue of the UI Libraries card catalog, check out the project prospectus and call for entries. We have received an overwhelming response ever since the press release in July; we have on record some 160 participants from Australia to Boston, California to Canada. If you want to join the cARTalog community just ask!

2005 Happenings in brief

July 2005 The Changing Book Conference!

June 2005 I trekked across the country and back, from Colorado to Baltimore. First to attend Paper Book Intensive, where I did lace and tacketed bindings with Chela Metzger and Martha Romero, Manuscript ink making with mad scientist Rich Spelker, and made my own brass mold and deckle with Sylvia Alotta. In Baltimore I attended a Rare Book School course on Medieval and Renaissance Bookbinding Structures, taught by Chris Clarkson. I hope to post more updates on these travels soon!

April 2005 Two bookbinding exhibits are up!: Bill Anthony: Fine Book Binder at the UIMA and Bookbinding Across Time and Culture, UI Main Libraries. Both are part of the upcoming Changing Book Conference in July. Larry Yerkes, Julie Leonard and Sara Sauers did a beautiful job on the Anthony Catalogue. You can purchase one for your very own here.
